Tonite, during the @usopen, the tennis courts of the World said goodbye to a Legend, a Megastar, a Champion, a Queen and the GOAT of women's pro tennis @serenawilliams 🤩 Serena is the highest-earning woman athlete of All Time! She won 23 Grand Slam single's titles, the most by any player in the Open Era, and the 2nd-most of All Time to Margaret Court (24). 4-time Olympic Gold Medalist, 3 for doubles with her sister @venuswilliams Coached by their parents, Oracene & Richard, I remember watching the girls 27 yrs. ago in their Pro debut. ......and did they ever stand out! Of course, they were African American in a basically white sport, but you quickly forgot that with the first swing of their racquets. Their parents decided the girls would SKIP the Jr. Tennis Pro Div. and debuted in the Sr. Pros, something never before done. TV hosts declared it a tragic mistake, crediting the bad decision to the incompetence of their coaches, but they shut that noise down real quick when they started swinging their racquets & decimating the competition. The biggest shocker was they played with the POWER & SPEED of Pro MEN!!! No woman could return the balls at that speed except each other. Richard probably made the decision to play that way, considering their incomparable strength & athleticism. The first years in the pros, they only played each other in ALL the FINALS. They were "The Dream", two little girls from Compton, where "no one" played tennis, who rose to heights in the tennis world never before reached or imagined! I've adored them & cheered them from day ONE, when I watched in awe, two Champions at their Pro Debut! Farewell Serena, the tennis star!
