Repost from @karmagawa ⚠️CRAZY BREAKING NEWS, PLEASE SHARE AND LET’S DISCUSS!⚠️ Earlier today, 2 members of Just Stop Oil, a group that seeks to stop oil and gas extraction in Britain, entered the National Gallery in London, opened two cans of Heinz cream of tomato soup, and threw them at Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers,” one of the treasures of the museum’s collection and one of six surviving images of sunflowers that van Gogh made in 1888/1889. Fortunately, the painting was protected so this stunt didn’t damage it, and a spokeswoman said that the group’s intention had only been to generate publicity/create debate around the climate crisis, not destroy any art. Climate protesters across Europe have for months been gluing themselves to the frames of famous paintings in a series of attention-grabbing stunts and while we agree that everyone must be made aware about this crisis, we believe anger-inducing stunts like this do little more than turn mainstream audiences off from actually creating any necessary change. Instead of grabbing headlines, we need to educate everyone about the far-reaching consequences of our irresponsible actions, which is why the @karmagawa and @savethereef teams work so hard on growing our communities and sharing fundraisers/eye-opening content we post — like yesterday’s study that showed how humans have killed roughly 70% of the world’s animals in the last few decades alone...on which we already have roughly 30,000 shares from people around the world who care deeply about our planet’s future. Please share this and let’s hear your thoughts about this in the comments below, but we say stop with the stunts and instead focus on promoting education, laws and donations to making this a better planet for all living creatures! #educationmatters #climateactivist #climateaction #savethereef #karmagawa
