Sunday marks what would have been Dick Smith's 100th birthday. Dick has arguably contributed more to our field than anyone ever. It’s hard to believe that just one person did all these things: 1st staff MUA in TV 1st dept head MUA in TV A beauty expert for Vogue, Glamour and Seventeen Introduced 355 and Pros-aide adhesives to our industry Created the first color TV makeup range for Max Factor called CTV and CTV-W (1955) Worked with legendary actors such as Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, David Bowie and Robert De Niro Dick invented hundreds of products and techniques including: PAX Inflatable Bladder effects for Altered States, The Exorcist, etc Karo syrup blood Overlapping appliances (instead of one-piece masks) Dental plumper for Marlon Brando for The Godfather Dick was a keynote speaker at the very first IMATS in 1997 and spoke at several of our shows in LA and London. We will always be grateful for his support and passion for makeup artistry.
