Grand Prismatic Spring is the most beautiful and dangerous hot springs in the world. This video was shot from a helicopter. Here are some facts about the incredible Grand Prismatic Springs: 1. The Grand Prismatic Spring is the largest hot spring in the United States, and the third largest in the world. It’s diameter is approximately 370 feet and it is approximately 160 feet deep. Its surface is about 7,270 feet above sea level. 2. The spring discharges an estimated 560 gallons of 160 °F water per minute. 3. Water at the center of the spring, which bubbles up 121 feet from underground chambers, can reach temperatures around 189 degrees Fahrenheit. 4. The Grand Prismatic Spring is really rainbow colored. Thanks to the heat-loving bacteria that call the spring home. The colors produced by the bacteria are determined by the temperature and depend on the ratio of chlorophyll to carotenoids present in the water. 5. In the center of the spring the water is so hot that the bacteria is not able to survive, whereas the temperature gradually drops towards the edges. This explains why the dazzling bright yellows, fierce oranges and deep reds only appear around the edges while the deep blue remains confined to the centre.
