Well that’s that for another year. @kendalmountainfestival ‘21 is done and dusted.
These film festivals are always strange, in a way. As filmmakers we spend days, weeks and months of our lives creating something, and then send it off to be built into a programme and screened to a paying audience.
We had an idea, we picked up tools and documented it, and then we sat down for countless hours and bolted it all together. Then all of a sudden it’s just there for everyone to watch, critique, adore, loathe or just simply enjoy. And then for them it’s gone as quickly as it came (usually). But for us it’s just the physical manifestation of a couple of years of graft and effort. It’s amateur, entry level philosophy, but the film is just a small part of the prize. Looking back on the process, both the good and the bad, the sun and the slime, the ‘eureka!’ and the self loathing. Those memories and those experiences are the gold.
We don’t know what will happen with ‘House of the Gods’ now, but it was brilliant to watch an audience watch it, and to party a little too hard afterwards. Good to cuddle old pals and laugh with a few new ones.
See you next year Kendal.
