Five years ago, right-wing extremists openly carried guns, Nazi flags, and other white supremacist symbols while chanting racist slogans at the "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, VA. One of them drove his car into a crowd of counter-protesters, killing Heather Heyer.⁠ ⁠ Guns are both a unifying symbol and tool of choice for white supremacists, who use armed intimidation to further their agenda. Many of the extremists at the “Unite the Right” rally were armed—one was arrested & sentenced for firing at counter-protesters while shouting racial slurs.⁠ ⁠ America is facing a rising threat of far-right extremist violence. White supremacy is a poison, and it becomes even deadlier than it already is when guns are involved.
