Meagan (@meaganillustrates) is an illustrator and visual arts teacher living in New York City. For the past decade, she has taught a range of subjects, including science, theater, and, most recently, art! Growing up in a household of artists, she felt destined to do something in that field. Years later, Meagan has beautifully shaped a career from a marriage of her passions: teaching and art. 🏙️ Meagan says, “Living in a rapidly changing city, I try to capture a moment in time with my art. You can blink, and an iconic place is gone. Buildings can pop up overnight.” In her free time, she loves exploring the city with her favorite tools for urban sketching: 8 x 8 Fluid cold press watercolor paper, a Pentel Pocket Brush Pen, and an Art Toolkit Pocket Palette filled with a variety of Daniel Smith watercolors. Urban sketching lets her develop her style while learning new parts of the city. “I like to capture what I see in my work and let others have a glimpse into the world around me.” 🔲 “My panel-style sketches began one day when I was out painting, and I was absolutely overwhelmed. I wanted to paint everything but only had a small window of time. Thus, the panel pages were born! Working in panels allows me to capture everything I want to document while also getting to experiment and play with composition. I love looking back at these paintings and seeing a story unfold throughout the panels.” 🖌️ We are happy to have stumbled upon Meagan’s iconic panel-style sketches online and are grateful for how enthusiastically she shares her journey with the world online. Thank you, Meagan, for sharing your work and your story with us.
