Matter Out Of Place - Being one of the largest camps on Playa does not mean you have to accept your environmental impact! In 2019 we went carbon neutral at @playalchemist but this year we had a community goal to ensure we left no MOOP behind, including our huge carbon footprint on the Playa. Each community member had the opportunity to contribute their equal portion of our total camps footprint with their camp cost share/dues; We measured our overall camp impact using conservation.org carbon calculator. 🌎 Together we surpassed our carbon impact and went beyond to make it negative, which will in-turn help our neighbouring camps footprint as well. 💕 With these storms and heat, it’s no secret Mother Nature is pissed at us and we all need to take action! We are always looking for ways to improve and support sustainability. Our community is filled with innovative humans leading initiatives in climate change + one of our leaders is on the founding team of the “Green Theme Camp Community” a platform for camps to become more sustainable. This year we added a whole day of programming (yes, that's 5 whole days of programming, 20 hours a day), to specifically bring more attention and participation to @burningman ‘s Sustainable & Regenerative Future. We highlighted the work on & off playa, incredible burners are doing as well as the Org itself. Featuring the Org's very own @cbreedlove & @mateosanch who lead the Sustainability Team within the org, as well as burners doing great work off playa such as @henkrogers @tiakansara and @zanderlongnow AND @gotchagato who started the Playa-wide composting program, @strengthwithoutbounds started the BLAST program, and even amazing theme camp leaders @moxon , @xtina.chu & @eshpagat on how Burner's can Green their Camps Step by Step.
