Ryan, what did you learn while making the zine? “Making books is great for helping you understand your work. From this project I was able to see patterns in my work that I didn’t see before. I noticed that many of my photos I take are connected to certain memories and past experiences that are reimagined through photography. I also learned the importance of not ignoring the most ordinary, uninteresting things when shooting because sometimes their meaning and value can increase based on how you contextualize them.” Ryan McSwain is a graphic designer and photographer based in Oakland, California.
