I’m not much for sharing this sort of thing on social media, but I know I’ve become increasingly distant from people over the past few months and haven’t really explained why.
In the 6 months since this photo was taken my family have now had to say goodbye to both these beautiful souls.
My Grandad was honestly a legend, full of pioneering diving stories and adventures (trouble..) he got up to in the Navy. He inspired me to be a risk taker and that there was no limit to what I could do with my life.
My Great Aunt Margie was a gem of a human, an ambitious high achiever with a humble outlook on her own life, she always knew the importance of giving back and protecting and respecting nature.
Over the past year I’ve had the great honor of volunteering in palliative/end of life care and trauma here in NZ.
I’m incredibly thankful for my training and the organizations that have invested their time and patience in me.
Immersing myself in that world has helped me discover confidence and empathy within myself I never knew I had, more importantly it has given me the ability to care for my loved ones in their final months.
I do not take a moment we had together for granted, and can only hope it was as healing for them as it was for me.
You will be missed xx
