Emoji 15.0, a new set of keyboard icons up for approval by the Unicode Consortium, represents a small expansion of the already extensive emoji language. Yet the response to its pending arrival has been outsize.
“We’re getting a moose emoji, this is not a drill,” one person tweeted. “FINALLY, A PINK HEART,” wrote another, using a weary face emoji to express being overcome. “The Crowmoji is long overdue,” yet another remarked, referring to the blackbird.
The 31 emojis being considered also include two other heart colors (light blue and gray); a stable of animals (a donkey, goose, jellyfish and blackbird—not a crow); two food ingredients (a ginger root and a peapod) and instruments (maracas and a flute). There is also a single wing, a hyacinth, a hand fan, a hair pick, a Sikh khanda, a wireless symbol, a left and a right “pushing hand” and a “shaking face.”
Though the new icons, which are expected by mid-2023, might seem a bit niche, some users were excited to find previously missing representation on the keyboard. Read more at the link in bio. (🖊️: @laneflorsheim, 📷️: Emoji 15.0 Sample Images 2022 Emojipedia & Zedge)
