Happy first rescue anniversary, Hayes! Hayes is a Red Holstein, a breed commonly used for dairy. Since males can’t produce milk, they are often raised for veal or beef, and Hayes was purchased with the intent of meat production. His purchasers housed him on a rented lot with other animals but stopped tending to their care soon after. Food deliveries ended, rent wasn’t paid, and Hayes was eventually abandoned altogether. The concerned property owner reached out for help, leading Hayes to safety and comfort in his new home — Farm Sanctuary. Hayes has adapted well to his new life at sanctuary. He’s a highly calm steer, looks to his older friends for guidance, and is happy to follow their lead, though his youthful energy still comes out when it’s playtime!
