INTRODUCING PAOLA Please give a huge welcome to our newest thriver to the grid, Paola aka @breastandbowelandme Tell Us About Your Diagnosis: I was diagnosed in 2017 with stage 1, grade 2, ER/PR+ HER- breast cancer. I was then diagnosed with stage 3c colorectal cancer in 2020, which progressed to stage 4 in 2021. Tell Us About Your Treatment To Date: My breast cancer treatment was 8 months of zoladex & exemestane (to shrink the tumour), a lumpectomy, 5 weeks of daily radiotherapy, then a further 4+ years of hormone blockers. My colorectal cancer treatment has been an initial colon/rectal resection with ileostomy, an emergency surgery due to a total blockage, 6 cycles of Folfox, an ileostomy & adhesion reversal and then HIPEC/CRS with a radical hysterectomy (there’s been a ton of other treatments/complications, but too long to list). What Advice Would You Give To Someone Newly Diagnosed: If you feel at all unheard by your doctors, confused or something just doesn’t sit right, get informed and ask more questions, and if necessary get a second opinion. Self-advocacy is crucial.
