The current makeup trends include more realistic skin - which means a long overdue bye-bye to social media style cake-face (thank God).
But could we please stop with the highly theatrical, often comical lengths makeup is taken to create a trend?
I understand the need for "shock value" because the cosmetic industry has flooded the marketplace with fast, unmemorable makeup, which has seriously shortened the consumer's attention span.
But WTF is "laminated skin"?!?
We're just getting over the glass skin trend, which was totally unrealistic for most people, except folks with super dry skin who didn't mind looking like a glazed donut.
Enter: "Laminated Skin."
Courtesy of Terry Barber, @maccosmetics director of makeup artistry and a lead makeup artist at this year's @londonfashionweek - laminated skin is the "next level of glow," and it emulates...sweat.
Wait...hold on here...SWEAT???
"The skin for the season is sweaty, which is no longer a negative," Barber told @refinery29 . "All the designers I'm working with are talking about sweaty skin like you've just come out of the ocean on holiday or been on a dance floor — or you've just had sex."
Barber says it's not just about highlighted cheekbones or powdery, sparkly finishes, which can be typical of highlighters. Instead, it's about using creamy products to create what he calls a "hyper-moisturized" and a "laminated" base.

STOP, please STOP, please please STOP!
Sweaty and greasy is NOT the way people want to look, in public, on the red carpet, at a social event, ANYWHERE - except the gym.
What are your thoughts about this trend?
Are you willing to indulge a client and apply this sweaty look to them?
Are you interested in looking sweaty at YOUR next social event?
