Cancer Season is here! I’ve long had the idea of working with perfumes in order to remediate and channel the archetypes of the planets. Plants have long been associated with the zodiac, and so after doing some research, I want to see how this works for me. Dividing each season by its 3 Zodiac signs, we start Summer with Cancer. Cancer is the water cardinal sign, ruled by the moon and exalts Jupiter. Keep in mind there is conflicting research on these, but I pulled most of my associations from Parker’s and trusted herbalist sources. Do Son by @Diptyque White florals all belong to Cancer, as the lunar ruled sign. With its light musky floral quality, Do Son feels like a swan resting in the reflection of the moon on a lake. Syren by @Maya Njie Another white floral, but bring in peaches and the ocean. Maya Njie the perfumer herself is a Cancer, and her refined but comforting perfumes feel very inline with the sensibilities of the sign. El Sireno by @House of Bō Translating to The Siren, El Sireno is a green floral aquatic. It evokes sparkling crystal waters in warm tropical oceans, bringing in a briney quality. No 101 by @Fischersund (gifted) Inspired by summer that fades all too quickly, No 101 is all dewy lawns and grass stains on knees. With lily adding wet floral nuances, it felt thematically tied to the youthful moments of summer. Naive by @Nose of Gatsby There had to be a lactonic perfume in the lineup, with Cancer’s Lunar connection to milk. Naive evokes tea gardens, but settles into a rosy lactonic musk that envelops the wearer. Sanrovia by @Blocki Perfumes (gifted) I found some sources which gave citrus to Cancer, and Sanrovia opens with bright layered citrus. It makes me think of summering on a lake in Italy, and also features jasmine. Mojave by @Studio Tanaïs To me, there’s always been a camphorous quality to Eucalyptus, and camphor as well as Sage is here as a note. Like the endless expanse of desert sky out in Joshua Tree, Mojave uses sacred herbs and resins of the Americas to transport the wearer. Philosia by @KORRES (gifted) Finally, Philosia smells like a sunny forest, like a hike through the wilderness. All trees (especially sap producing ones) are actually attributed to the summer water sign. Did some of these associations surprise you? I’d love to see the different kinds of perfumes YOU could find that work for them. #perfumetok #fragrancetok #perfumetray #summerperfume #nicheperfume
