The incredible beauty of this island is just one of the allures to making the long trek here, with its rich history and culture being the other major draw. The island is inhabited not only by the Rapa Nui people whose ancestors first came to the island over a thousand years ago, but also by over 1,200 of these giant statues called Moai. The mystery behind how this ancient civilization carved and transported these massive blocks of rock all across the island is jaw dropping.
