On June 24, the Supreme Court ruled on Dobbs and stripped national protections for abortion rights. The public outcry has been loud and visible across social media and in massive protests across the country - as is the social and political support for this act of state violence. But Toni and Breya write, “As Black women, we don’t get the luxury of simplification or being shocked. The Roe v. Wade ruling has a painful historical precedent printed on Black women’s bodies—the force our ancestors had to bear, from coerced impregnation by rape to forced sterilization.” So, where do we go from here? “We hope that this ruling will radically transform how we fight for change in this country by finally recognizing that it won’t last if you don’t create movements that are genuinely loving and inclusive of Black women, Black girls, and gender expansive people. This is the only way forward.” GGE’s Deputy Director of Organizing Breya Johnson (@TheBlackestLayers) and Director of Culture & Narrative Shift Toni Wilson (@fatblackluxury) authored a new op-ed that was published in @prismreports on Friday.
