I am the one discovering another isn’t accepting among a culture of pleasing I desperately need to relieve myself of this feeling It reminded me of the time when an old friend was arguing with me about Beyoncé I simply said I didn’t care for Beyoncé as a musician nor did I care about her “relevance as a pop culture icon” because pop culture relevance is not something I value and she couldn’t believe that I would say that she insisted that millions of people love Beyoncé and it must be because Beyoncé creates really exceptional music and that I must if I am reasonable acknowledge these things and I simply said I don’t need to like Beyoncé I don’t need to like this or that or him or her I don’t need to like everyone and everything and not everyone needs to like me and that’s ok and I’m going to continue not liking Beyoncé and I’m going to continue to believe that her music is not that great and some might consider that controversial and some might think I’m an asshole for not liking this or that or him or her and I laugh because maybe I am an asshole but maybe I’d rather acknowledge I might be an asshole than pretend that Beyoncé makes exceptional music but give Bordeaux by The Durutti Column a listen you might like it
