In my last post I shared about these gorgeous updates to my most sentimental costume, by @fireflypath but today we wanted to give you the grand tour! (Swipe to see!) This beautiful gown was in need of some TLC & preservation after 10 yrs. of wear & @fireflypath was up to the task! The majority of it was made of raw silk, including the sleeves. I wanted to choose a new sleeve material that was a bit more lightweight & mobile. JoEllen was kind enough to accompany me to pick out the fabric, just like we did when she made the gown way back in 2012! Miraculously we found this fabric that looked like it was made for the gown! I love how the mesh of the sleeves melts into my arms & looks almost like it disappears! It’s such a mermaidy, ethereal touch. Jo & team even took the time to hand sew tiny button snaps at the wrists, each covered w/a tiny pearl. I also fell in love w/this rhinestone appliqué-it layers so beautifully! The rest of the gown wasn’t visibly changed, tho some hard work went into completely remaking the structure of the bodice. Have I mentioned, the original version of this gown was made in only 3 days?! Just like in Ariel’s story, this gown only had 3 days to be transformed! Even all these years later I’m shocked JoEllen was able to do it so quickly! (Albeit we did have a few helpers!) After seeing the new Little Mermaid Live Action trailer, I am even more excited than before to see what gorgeous gowns Disney will dream up for Halle to wear as Ariel in the film! Even though costuming is a secondary passion of mine to music, I can’t imagine not having it in my life to help inspire me for the songs I get to write, and the projects I get to film! I feel so lucky to work w/such talented artists like JoEllen-I really do feel like I’ve had my own small movie-making experience getting to be a part of creating costumes like this, & music videos like the ones I get to make! JoEllen was the reason my very first one, my Part of Your World cover, even happened, and I will be forever grateful! Please go follow her if you haven’t already.
