It's been a bit confusing coming back from the Yukon's snowstorms, fall autumn colors and diving back into summer in Squamish. With autumn officially here, it reminds me of colder nights and ALL the colors. The day before this hike we saw the brightest Northern Lights I've ever seen. They were so bright we could take cell phone videos and it was highly distracting as I was driving!
I realize Northern Lights have not been something I've chased. It's something we see on our trips up north while we hike or camp but I should make a goal out of it one day. We're usually exhausted from day activities so by the time I do see them, I'm not ready to spend a night awake trying to photograph them. It's usually freezing so the girls are sleeping inside and I tend to be caught without an intervalometer, or even a tripod.
The first video is from this trip, the camera is on a duffle bag with a remote trigger. The second video is from 2019 where I'm sitting in my underwear at a parking lot freezing, clicking the camera manually because I didn't want to wake anyone for clothes or tripod. The third video is from Whitehorse while we were camping underneath the stars in 2013 during a multi-day dogsledding trip. I suppose the point is, the photos of the Northern Lights haven't been the focus of these trips, they've always been a happy surprise and, maybe someday I'll get some proper photos but the more you're outside, the more you see!
