Why post these images? Why, when the world is once again (and again and again) trembling in the face of unspeakable madness and grief? Calls to action are everywhere. Calls for change. We live just a few towns over from Sandy Hook. Our son was part of the same generation as the 20 children who were killed in 2012. It’s impossible not to think of all that life, all that promise, all the love that was lost. When he graduated from college last week, I thought of them. And here we are. 19 children in Uvalde. And the teachers who tried to protect them. The human heart isn’t meant to metabolize the sheer weight of loss and rage we simply must contend with. So I’m just reaching out a hand to you all to say that I post these images of my little family because they are filled with love, and I can stand in the shoes of every single one of these parents and feel a sliver of their grief. Oh, and one more thing: if you don’t already, I hope you’ll follow the great Senator from Connecticut, @senchrismurphy. With leaders like Chris and @betoorourke we can hold on to hope and take action.
