I’ll admit, as a Black Woman, I’ve definitely agreed to be paid less than my worth for fear of missing out on opportunities. I’ve adhered to Black Tax, which may include doing my own hair before set, bringing in my whole makeup kit just in case there is someone assigned to me that doesn’t know how to do black hair or match black skin. I’ve accepted this as the norm, but it shouldn’t be.
Requiring people do their job properly isn’t diva like behavior. It’s been conveyed to us as such to relinquish accountability from those guilty of making the appearance of black women on camera an afterthought. I’ve advocated for myself and others in this regard. It doesn’t stop at Hair and Makeup but In compensation as well.
As women in this world we get stigmatized if we ask for what we believe we’re worth.
Well , NO MORE.
Every time we as women require what we deserve in compensation, we advocate on behalf of other women.
So professionally and personally, pay the price or respectfully leave me alone
Yesterday’s price is not today’s price. 📈
