Y’all know I love my Daddy & low key wanted this post to be about just us but I decided to share the first “Stevie” of our family instead. This is my older brother who lived as a same gender loving man & died in the HIV/AIDS epidemic. I was born 5 yrs before & have no memories of him but Daddy says he was a great writer, a graduate of Morehouse, attended Ebenezer Baptist Church, had a partner he loved v much & was born gay. My entire life Daddy has told me people are born gay. One thing bout my Daddy is he’s gonna tell da truth. The other day he shared mama originally wanted to name me Stevie. I was shocked b/c I never knew. He said they went w/ Stevona because he already had a Stevie & that was that. The gag is I was solely Stevona until around 16 yrs. old when I intro’ed myself as Stevie b/c niggas struggled to say my name. Daddy laughed bout the irony. He said, “Stevie’s spirit found its way.” I woke up this morn like damn! It’s Father’s Day, Juneteenth & Pride month. I’m grateful for how Daddy shaped my thinking around it all. That’s my Ace!
