In this month’s issue of The Tea, we are exploring the importance of queer Black spaces, especially the ones integral to our survival and basic human rights. Safe “T” Housing, written by our comrades Brayland Brown and Valencia Gunder (Co-Founders and Co-Directors at @SmileTrustInc) discusses the housing crisis in Black trans communities and what their organization is doing about it. “Housing insecurity has increased exponentially since we’ve started our work, and in our post-pandemic era, housing insecurities have disproportionately affected the Black trans community. As an organization that is fighting to eliminate housing insecurity, we’ve specifically allocated safe housing resources via our Rent Gap Program to assist our local Black trans sisters and brothers. We’ve had the opportunity to collaborate with a local Black trans-led organization, @TransInclusiveGroupFL, to launch South Florida’s first trans safe house.” Click the link in our bio to read the full piece, and if you’d like to support, please donate to @SmileTrustInc at TheSmileTrust.org!
