What’s your favorite pairing in the zine? “I chose these two images because they were relevant to pair both in their similarities and well as how they were different to me. Remnants of barns and houses are always a great subject to stumble across on the road because they represent so much from memory to prosperity of a family or farm as well as the juxtaposition between home being a place of comfort and the fact that it now just resides as it is in decay and open to the landscape to reabsorb. You never know how long it will be there or how the scene will change as time goes on. The car for the other paired shot was interesting to me because these old and broken down past modes of transportation are often left very intentionally in their rural locations and while they most obviously represent years of travel, have now come to rest where they do.” Cody Allen. Viroqua, WI. @driftlessmoto When most people think of the midwest, their thoughts quickly jump to phrases like ‘tornado alley’, ‘flyover country’, or more specific things like fish fry fridays, packed bars with friendly locals, the phrase “Uff-da” and other tropes from the movie Fargo. While most of those are true, I’ve personally discovered a sense of beauty in my sliver of the midwest known as the Driftless region of Wisconsin. It is anything but flat and houses remnants of memories past that I feel need to be documented before their scene is changed forever and time moves on without them.
