1️⃣Pilates is a form of strength training that focuses on moving from your core. Adding strength training helps to improve your strength and power in your runs. Having a strong core helps you run upright while your arms and legs are moving in space. “Moving from your core” helps your limbs and trunk work together so that your body is using energy more efficiently.
2️⃣Pilates emphasizes mind-body connection which means an improvement to neuromuscular control/contraction. (Muscle contraction is dependent on input from a motor neuron, the nerve fiber signal stemming from the brain that tells it to contract).
3️⃣The brain/body works in a use it or lose it fashion. Training the mind body connection and becoming aware of WHAT in your body is working can help develop body awareness to prevent injuries. Also, Pilates strengthens what is lengthened in in the body (overstretched or underworked) and lengthens what is tight in the body (think mobility and flexibility training) to strengthen the body uniformly helping to minimize overdose or overtraining injuries.
4️⃣Breath is a tool to help core and muscle engagement. In Pilates there is an emphasis on diaphragmatic breathing and utilizing your lung capacity to its fullest extent while moving.
