My memoir Life Lived Wild came out three weeks ago, and last week I had a “slide show” about some of the adventures in the book, at the Explorers Club in New York City. My adventure buddy Tom Brokaw on the right showed up, as well as Tom’s wife Meredith on the far left and my close friend Nuna Teal, next to me. Tom is one of the characters in the book, and he, Meredith and I have been close friends for 42 years. In a story in the book called “Boy Scout Compass”, I write how Yvon Chouinard, Doug Tompkins and I once guided Tom up the Kautz Glacier Route on Mt. Rainier, only to get lost in a white out on the summit rim. “Would a compass help?” Tom asked. “You have a compass?” Yvon replied. “My Boy Scout compass,” Tom said. “Always Be Prepared.” Decades later Tom gave me the compass, and it’s one of my treasured keepsakes. @PatagoniaBooks. #LifeLivedWildBook
