Do you know what your core is?
I regularly describe it to my clients in comparison to a vest that you wear. Everything the vest touches (+ your pelvic floor) is part of your core. It’s more than just our abdominal muscles.
It works like a pillar or a support beam to hold the load of your body. When we work our core it’s not about learning how to tighten up a few of those vest muscles really well individually. It’s actually learning how to activate the entire pillar as a unit and then keeping that activation within all the dynamic movements that we do.
Things like running, hiking, climbing stairs, pivoting in the kitchen or picking up your kid. Our core keeps us strong, supported and confident in our movement.
The core has depth and complexity, but Pilates is a great way to connect to the core and reap the benefits of a strong pillar.
To explore this further and get the actual core working, join my virtual 30 Day Pilates Challenge that I am hosting for @ponybackstyle starting today, September 12th!
Each day I will be breaking down a Pilates exercise and explaining how to do the movement properly as well as the benefits of it for our body. If you are new to Pilates or have been intimidated by it, here is your sign to get started with this challenge! www.atlashealthandfitness.com/events
