Celerina Chao is a member’s daughter who is an environmental enthusiast. When she learned that tennis balls are not biodegradable, she knew she had to do something. Six months ago, Celerina learned how to re-pressurize tennis balls from a school science project. Since then, she has been grabbing donated dead balls from a variety of private clubs in the area and re-pressurizing them. So far, Celerina has re-pressurized 5,500 tennis balls and distributed them to 92 schools across California and Nevada. Miss Chao and her family are hoping to expand their enterprise to Mexico soon.
