I spent far too long feeling insecure about my dark skin. Being a dark Indian woman is an entirely different experience from being a light skinned one. I inherited my father’s dark skin and I’m proud of it... but I didn’t always used to be. I tried rubbing lemon slices on my face, fell for the Indian fairness cream marketing, and stayed out of the sun. No longer. I not only have dark skin, I have thick skin.
