SO HONORED TO BE A PART OF THIS LOOK 😍 My jaw is still dropped after watching @sheacoulee stomp down the runway in this 👏🏽 ••• ••• REPOST FROM @sheacoulee ••• ••• Category Is: Knitty Knitty Bang Bang Ndebele Princess. This is by far one of my FAVORITE runways. When we got the theme I went on a deep dive researching anything that spoke to me. That’s when I came across the incredibly beautiful style of the Ndebele people of South Africa. Known for their brightly painted homes, they decorate the exteriors with vibrant symbols and expressions that portray communications of personal prayers, self-identification, values, emotions, and marriage. Some of the most popular color combinations include red, gold, and cyan. I was so deeply moved and inspired by these artisans that I KNEW I had to do my own interpretation for this weeks runway challenge. I was so nervous on the day of the runway because I didn’t get to practice my bald cap application ahead of the competition. Knowing that my first time would be on the MainStage captured by HD cameras was daunting to say the least. But I was SO proud of how it turned out. (Even had me thinking about becoming a bald black beauty like Monét Exchange) One of my favorite compliments that that didn’t make the final cut was Ross Matthew’s saying that he felt like this look belonged in the Smithsonian 🥰 Integrating the African diaspora in my runway presentations in unexpected ways is always a delightful challenge for me, and this look in particular holds a very special place in my heart 💖 Hope you enjoyed it too.
