“Be my victim.” 🐝
.
Outwardly, #Candyman is a horror story about a hook-handed urban legend killer covered in bees. But just beneath the surface lies a deeper horror, more frightening because unlike urban legends, it’s reality. While even the backstory of Candyman himself directly involves racism and a brutal hate crime, the film also touches on gentrification, racial inequality, inherent bias, and privilege. Though the movie (released in the 90s) still has its flaws from a social awareness standpoint, I’ve always admired the way it gives audiences a lot of real world commentary to consider while also scaring our pants off. And honestly, Tony Todd is simply phenomenal so I’m really excited to channel that energy today as not only day 13 of my own #31daysofhalloween, but today’s prompt of @patrickadougall’s #PaTrickOrTreat challenge which is “Halloween Movie Icons” (not necessarily a Halloween movie, but horror automatically counts right?)
.
Anyway, 2021 is bringing us a new @CandymanMovie and I couldn’t be more excited! Anyone else looking forward to the new film? What are your thoughts on the trailer??? #NiaDaCosta #JordanPeele #blacktober #halloweenenchanted
