In the early years after the Eames House’s construction in 1949, the living room was quite empty. Charles and Ray took advantage of this open space by doing a variety of different things, including hosting a Japanese tea ceremony in 1951. To enhance the setting, the Eameses hung a large panel to act as a false ceiling and placed tatami mats and Eames LTR side tables on the ground.
