Real things I’ve said in therapy this week.
1. Uncertainty doesn’t automatically mean disaster.
👉🏻This challenges catastrophic thinking and helps clients pause before jumping to worst-case scenarios.
2. Sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is stay consistent and trust the process, even if we can’t see the results yet.
👉🏻This reinforces the importance of long-term change over quick fixes, especially when motivation feels low or progress is invisible.
3. You don’t have to have it all figured out today — you just have to keep taking the next right step.
👉🏻This reduces overwhelm and invites people to shift from perfectionism to progress.
4. We’re constantly shown a version of life that’s curated, polished, and unrealistic. But real life doesn’t follow that script — and it doesn’t have to.
👉🏻This normalizes struggle and helps reduce shame by pushing back against comparison culture and unrealistic expectations.
5. Imagine I gave you exactly what you’re asking for — would that give you the clarity to move forward, or would the doubts still be there?
👉🏻This gently brings awareness to internal barriers that might be getting in the way, even when external solutions are available.
6. Is that really realistic for this week?
👉🏻This promotes self-compassion and encourages flexible, achievable goals rather than setting oneself up for failure.
Common Themes:
These reflections all invite a more grounded, compassionate, and realistic approach to growth. They challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, normalize uncertainty, and promote mindful action over perfection. Each encourages self-reflection, emotional regulation, and sustainable progress — core pillars of cognitive behavioral therapy.
