Besides the iconic Josephine Baker (who reached success only after leaving America to live in Paris), there really were no other black starlets during that time. I loved the Netflix show Hollywood, and similarly, I wanted to embody what it would have been like if Americas sorted history of racism wasn’t as prevalent during that time, and glamorous black actresses were the norm.
