Time is a tricky concept for your child. In fact, they won’t fully grasp it until they’re about 5 or 6 years old. Most children begin to understand the terms “yesterday,” “today,” and “tomorrow” at around age 3. Not long after that, they may come to understand days of the week. The Plan Ahead Weather Board from The Observer Play Kit for 3-year-olds, introduces seasons and days of the week with colorful visual representations. Interacting with the board can give your child some control over daily plans and build their developing sense of autonomy. It can shift the power dynamic, for instance, from you telling them that they must wear a jacket to them using the board’s t-shirt-to-parka temperature gauge to choose a coat themselves.🧥 Here are some other ways you can help your child learn from the Plan Ahead Weather Board: 🍃Prompt them to rotate the tree overlays to indicate winter, spring, summer, or fall and then point to signs of the season when the two of you go outside. 📅 Remind them to turn the day-of-the-week wheel to the color of today and note what color yesterday was and what color tomorrow will be. 🏠 Guide them to slide the day’s activity bar to the side that showcases whether they will be at home for the day or at school. ⛅️Share the weather forecast with them and encourage them to set the sun dial to sunny, cloudy, rainy, stormy, or snowy. Then, observe the sky with them. These fun experiences will also give your child the calming reassurance that comes with knowing what to expect.
