Like many musicians, I really love Christmas music and given all of the extreme weirdness of this year, I’ve been thinking about this one a lot this week. It’s such a beautiful song with a beautiful sentiment, this boy of humble means still wants to be of use and offer something special to this newborn baby. All he has is his drum and he gives the simple gift of music. This year has been tough for all of us. I know that for me in particular, the pandemic has highlighted a lot of my flaws and challenges. I haven’t been able to show up for and communicate in the way that I’d like to for friends, family and collaborators. But I’m vowing to do better in the coming weeks and new year. The thing that moves me the most about this tune is that what the little drummer has to offer is small, but is deeply moving to all those that are present, even the animals! It speaks to the power of music and of sharing whatever it is that you might have to give in any moment.
