Amidst the worst economical crisis in modern history, some people in Lebanon decided to return to agriculture and sustainable ways of farming to foster solidarity, biodiversity, food sovereignty, peasant autonomy, and environmental protection. Among them is the association @buzurunajuzuruna , founded in 2016 and located in Saadnayel, a small city in the Beqaa Valley. Along the foot of Mount Lebanon in the West and the wide lands of the valley with the mountainous Syrian borders towards the East, Buzuruna Juzuruna is growing peasant seeds, vegetables, cereals, fruits and a shared agricultural know-how with and for the people of the Sham. In the course of the last century, the global variety of seeds came under threat by growing industries and was harshly reduced by over 70% worldwide. Crop diversity and adaptability is among the preconditions for our survival and had been cultivated for millenia. It is therefor vital to return to the traditionally genetic variety of seeds. With their holistic approach combining farming with education and trainings, activism, solidarity, and product sales, Buzuruna Juzuruna as a constantly growing community of people from multiple countries is laying the foundation for future generations in the region. Future generations that will know better how to live in tune with the planet that we call home. #onassignment for Greenpeace Magazin Germany, May 2022 #lebanon #economiccrisis #corruption #agriculture #farming #localproduction #nature #womenphotographers #greenpeace #greenpeacemagazin #photojournalism #climatecrisis #foodsecurity #sustainability #war @greenpeacemagazin #greenpeacemagazin #greenpeace #peace
