Hey friends and family! Those who are close to me know what is going on, but I wanted to open up about this experience so that others facing similar challenges know they’re not alone—and to shed light on cancer causing gene mutations that are more common than you would think. In April of 2023, we lost our precious deedee to breast cancer. She was first diagnosed at just 37 years old. She fought it—hard—not once, but three times, until her body could no longer carry the weight of that fight. Losing her was, and still is, the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced. She wasn’t just my mom - she was my best friend and my safe place. Grief has become a constant companion of mine and has changed me in ways I never could have imagined. It comes in waves.. some that knock the wind out of me, and others that quietly settle in the background of my everyday life. But one thing this grief has also given me is clarity. Watching her fight with everything she had, and then having to say goodbye far too soon made one thing very clear.. if there is anything I can do to be here longer with my children, and potentially spare them the absolutely gut wrenching pain that cancer brings - I would do it without hesitation.
