415,000 trees planted in India🌲🎉 These trees were planted to restore 7.74 hectares of land on the eastern shoreline of Kumirmari island in the Sundarbans of West Bengal. Currently, the Sundarbans are threatened by rising sea levels, increasing salinity in the water and soil, cyclonic storms, flooding, and other natural factors. Natural regeneration is not sufficient to cope with the rate of forest loss. Planting trees here helps regenerate and restore the mangrove forest and its ecological benefits to what they once were. The local women and children were trained and engaged in the seed collection process with the long-term goal of helping them learn how to plant mangroves from start to finish. The planting also employed 85 women to monitor and manage the site over a five-month period.
