Exactly one year ago I embarked on the adventure of a lifetime across the Pacific Ocean to @konaartfarm to paint my very first mural. This mural took countless hours (I literally lost count) and 2 months to complete. Working in many tropical rain storms, dousing myself in bug spray every day, and only using 7 colors, it was quite literally an enormous undertaking, but one that @mistytashina and I had dreamed about for years. Our journey begins 4 years ago at the Kona Airport when I met Misty and her partner @kozmolena while reading Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home and waiting for my flight. Misty and I kept in touch for the following years, and had loosely talked about the possibility of me coming out to the island and painting a mural on the farm. Cut to last January 2021, with COVID levels soaring in LA, I figured what better time than now to finally make this dream a reality. So my endlessly supportive partner @maiahmanser and I bought plane tickets, donned full PPE and left CA for the Kona Coast and the rest is history. It was truly such an honor to be trusted by @konaartfarm and @mistytashina to bring this mural to life. Thank you for being such gracious hosts, giving us the most beautiful cabin to live in, and teaching us about the land and off-grid living. I can’t wait for the next time I get to visit this beautiful place.
