TODAY'S THE DAY
It’s National Rum Day, and to celebrate, we have to talk about the Hurricane!
Created in New Orleans in the 1940s at Pat O’Brien’s bar, the Hurricane wasn’t what Pat really wanted. He was really trying to just get his whiskey delivery, but the supplier told him he had to buy rum, too. So, he made the Hurricane (named for the lamp shape, not the natural disaster) as a way to use up the rum quickly—he put four ounces 😳 of rum in the original recipe.
Now one of the most popular drinks in New Orleans, the sweet red drink is widely consumed. Our recipe is a slightly grown up version (that won’t stain your tongue red), made with aged rum, Jamaican rum, passion fruit, turbinado sugar, orange and lemon. Just sweet enough, but of course, all about the rum. Come by to celebrate the national holiday, we open at 4!
