I started out shooting landscapes and documenting hiking and backpacking trips, but my work has evolved over the years to include portraits, environmental portraiture and events on film. This picture was taken at El Matador State Beach. I was on a road trip this summer and we pulled off on the PCH the first day, right as the light was starting to fade. The walk down the narrow steps toward the beach was welcome after seven hours on the road. Coming from the Bay Area, I’m always amazed with the light in SoCal. Even when the sun has sunk below the cliffs, the light still bursts through the sea stacks and over the rocks. It's stunning. So with the sun setting north of the beach on this night, we still got these soft beams of light shooting down at our feet. “Curtain Call” taken on Kodak Professional Portra 400 in July 2022.
