After 13 years as a Sunset Harbour mainstay, @panthercoffee is being forced to close—not because it failed, but because it couldn’t afford to stay.
For more than a decade, the homegrown Miami café served as a true neighborhood anchor on Purdy Avenue, known for its loyal regulars, buzzing tables of freelancers, and the aroma of freshly roasted beans drifting through the area.
Founders Leticia and Joel Pollock say the shop was thriving, but an untenable lease renewal—described as the highest rate ever for the area—and a landlord unwilling to negotiate ultimately sealed its fate.
The Sunset Harbour outpost was more than a coffee shop; it was a daily ritual, a meeting place, and a constant in a rapidly changing neighborhood. Panther confirmed its final day of service at the location will be February 28, emphasizing the closure is “not by choice and not by failure.”
While staff will have opportunities to relocate to other Panther locations, the closure underscores a growing concern in Miami: even the most beloved local institutions remain vulnerable to rising rents and shifting priorities, leaving communities to grapple with what’s lost when neighborhood pillars disappear.
