Artist Spotlight: @marianavelasquezv, Founder of @casavelasquez__ Mariana Velasquez is a seasoned food designer, stylist and chef that has worked on dozens of English and Spanish language cookbooks, collaborated on magazine projects, commercials and feature films which have taken her all over the globe. Casa Velasquez is an extension of Mariana’s world - offering a way to share how she sets the table, chic hosting-ware, including aprons, dresses, and table top accessories. In a conversation most recently on her newly published cookbook Columbiana, Bogota-born, Brooklyn based Velasquez notes “I went back home and I sat and wrote in a notebook for hours, divided the chapters, made a list of recipes, cried—it was really cathartic,” she says. “That book was inside of me, but I guess I had not been ready until now.” “I kept looking for the answers out there. And all the answers were inside of me. My own childhood, my own history,” she says. “That’s how I rescued myself from being really depressed. And that’s the advice I could give. It’s inside you.
