Nate and Bob are lucky to be alive after escaping a “farm-to-table” operation.
When the farm had a visitor, she noticed the lambs huddled in a corner, lifeless and shivering. Feeling concerned for their well-being, she asked the farmer what was wrong with them, and he told her their mother died and “if they make it, they make it.”
Unsatisfied with that response, the woman asked to take the brothers home. Since the farmer already viewed the sickly lambs as “not worth it,” handing them over to her was not a financial loss, so he agreed.
When they came to Farm Sanctuary, neither of the boys had the energy to move more than a few steps — it was apparent they had numerous illnesses and infections. With love, treatment, and individualized care, Nate and Bob were able to begin their journey to healing. Seven years later, these brothers enjoy life and are always at the front of the line for human attention.
Though Nate and Bob made it out safe, each year, more than 2.3 million lambs and sheep will never be able to escape their fate — which is why our rescue, education, and advocacy work is critical to rebuilding an unjust food system.
