BREAKING: Feds Launch Civil Rights Investigation Into KCPD for Racism & Discrimination THE BACKGROUND 📃 The U.S. Department of Justice has launched a civil rights investigation into the Kansas City Police Department to determine if their employment practices are guilty of racial discrimination. A letter by assistant attorney general of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, said it has information which suggests KCPD is “engaged in certain employment practices that discriminate against Black officers and applicants, including those that have a disparate impact based on race, in entry level hiring, promotions and assignments to Detective, in imposing discipline, and by maintaining a hostile work environment.” The investigation will be led by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri and the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ. THE FACTS 💡 Anyone who has spent any significant amount of time in Kansas City is certain to know that the Kansas City Police Department does not need any sort of investigation for it to be common knowledge that the department is both white supremacist at its core, and also violently misogynistic. DEFENDER’S TAKE ✍🏾 As recently as last year in the tragic case of Cameron Lamb, it was proven in court that KCPD framed 26-year old Lamb, saying that he had a weapon and pointed it at officers when they murdered him. It was proven in court he was unarmed and not pointing a weapon. Similar situations of the KCPD lying to cover up murders of Black people include Ryan Stokes, Malcolm Johnson, Terrance Bridges, and many many more. While some may view it as a small step forward, it is nearly insulting that the Department of Justice is implying there is any investigation needed to determine the KCPD is fascist, racist and a criminal terrorist organization at its core. Further, the investigation only looks into racism against its own officers, and not the vicious violence the department itself inflicts on the public and community. This is a developing story.
