For a lot of us 2020 was full of promise, with all signs chanting "this is our year." The year big plans for small businesses would blossom...in neighborhoods that thrive by simply being in the same room with passionate minds. Simply put: Plans have changed.
There's a term used in jazz/blues - "playing the changes" - which refers to a musician’s ability navigate and improvise through the structure of a song. It requires each of them to be on the "same page" about what they're performing, but leaves room for creative freedom to add their own flavor to the mix as everyone’s locked in.
Seeing communities band together to survive the shitshow that is #COVD19, I was inspired to start a little photo project a few weeks ago to share stories of how chefs, designers, artists and other small business owners have had to learn how to evolve together, and improvise to #PlayTheChanges.
I'm a maker, musician, visual storyteller, and for the time being...a cookie baker. Who knows what the next few days, weeks, or months will look like, but for now we're all just doing our best to #PlayTheChanges too. If you'd like to nominate someone to be a part of this project, please DM me! (Also thank you to everyone who's been supporting me as I figure my shit out.)
