The technique I'm using in this picture is called diaphragmatic release and can be used in labor to turn a stubborn posterior baby. It takes patience on part of both midwife and birthing person because you need to hold this for 20-40 min depending on the situation. My other hand is underneath, on the top of the sacrum and in a direct line with my upper hand. The whole weight of this mama is on that hand - and they have to hold still - so it isn't easy.
