Mesmerized. (Are you jelly yet? 😜) I visited the famous jellyfish lake in Palau many years ago, but never realized that we had an equally amazing one in Sohoton, near Siargao. It’s suspected that these golden jellyfish were washed into the lagoons by the tides, and have evolved in the brackish (mix of salt and fresh) water in such a way that they are now “stingless”, as they have no predators here and no longer needed a powerful sting as a defense mechanism (they still have a very mild sting that is effective only on their microscopic phytoplankton prey) Which means it’s perfectly safe to swim here surrounded by them. I love how it also contributes to the local economy of trained tour guides and small Bangka operators that bring you there through the shallow waters and cave tunnels.
